Past events - Myanmar Climate Week 2023 

The first Myanmar Climate Action Week was held between 20 and 26 March 2023 with the goal of revitalizing climate discussion and action within the country. The event was hosted by UN-Habitat Myanmar as part of the Myanmar Climate Change Alliance program funded by the European Union. The event brought together stakeholders from various sectors to refocus on the pressing issue of climate change amidst shifting priorities. During the event, participants were introduced to the network MCAW as a place for stakeholders to advocate for urgent climate action; exchange knowledge and ideas; promote best practices; and explore opportunities to mobilize resources jointly. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the climate risk outlook at global and regional levels, key ongoing programs in the Asia-Pacific region, challenges faced by least-developed countries (LDCs), and an overview of climate risk and opportunities in Myanmar.

Focus session on Nature-based solutions

This session on ‘Nature-Based Solutions: Regional Experiences on Climate Action’ brought international experts from the Philippines and India to advocate nature-based solutions on urgent climate actions, exchange knowledge and ideas, and promote the region's best practices of climate actions. This – helped to learn more from – neighbouring countries based on their experiences in dealing with the climate crisis and potential solutions to build climate resilience, as well as how these regional experiences can be applied in the context of Myanmar to accelerate the implementation of climate actions across all sectors
During this session, the experts shared their experiences of climate actions in three different climatic zones: dry zones, coastal areas, and hilly regions in Myanmar. A panel discussion on “Key thematic areas and methodologies to accelerate the implementation of climate actions in the Myanmar context” brought experts from the UN, INGOs, and LNGO together to exchange ideas. The main discussion points in this session focused on the impact of climate change in various geographical locations.
